Tummy Tuck Procedure
Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck procedure is used to counter act the effects of pregnancy or bariatric weight loss. In both of these situations there are several anatomic changes that occur as a result of weight gain and fetus growth. The first is an increase of fat deposits particularly in the hip and lower abdominal area. There can also be a breakdown of the deep collagen layer creating stretch marks which typically are located in the umbilical (belly button) and lower region but can also be seen in the hips. The last issue is the stretching and weakening of the abdominal rectus muscles which extend from the pelvis up to the ribcage.
